You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in the fields of gold
So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We’ll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We’ll walk in the fields of gold
We’ll walk in the fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in the fields of gold
hahaha so i’m the first one ever to comment on this great song. if my life has a theme song, this must be it. or probably second to “standing at the edge of the earth” by the bless’d union of souls. this one from sting is full of deep meaning & unprecedented appeal to melancholic ears like mine. i love this one.
fyi — i believe this is one of the themes used by the tv series “angel” (way back ’90s).
best
song
ever.
It’s a great song, I also like Eva Cassidy’s accoustic version, the clarity in her voice gives the song a much more romantic feel.
beautiful song, i love this song
wonderful - one of the best
Supposedly according to “Charlotte” from Coventry, England from a post on another site, Sting wrote this song after he… “bought a house near a barley field. The sunsets and the colors of the field were an inspiration for the lyrics, along with his love at the time.”
Is that true? Everybody attributes deep meaning to this song.
Including me. Sting is great. But does anybody really know what he had in mind when he wrote it?
Even though this song is about lovers, the last verse always reminds me of my brother and I as children. I lost him in a car accident earlier this year and I play this song over and over again just to hear that last verse and remember he and I outside playing until the summer’s last light. I’ll always remember him when the west wind moves…
